You have to feel sorry for my friend
Christopher, the celebrated restaurateur. Out of the goodness of his heart he invites me to his pop-up restaurant in the cellar of the French wine boutique
Maison Vauron and immediately I lower the tone.
"Glad you could make it Simon, allow me to introduce our host, Jean-Cristophe" greeted Chris.
"Bonsoir, Jean-Cristophe" I nodded.
"Enchante, Simon" replied Jean-Cristophe, handing me a delightful Cassis de Dijon over Chardonnay apertif.
"Non non non Monsieur" I said, attempting to hand it back. "Le vin fabrique en Angleterre, si vous plait."
"What did you just say?" asked Chris.
"Your friend just tried to order English wine" answered Jean-Cristophe flatly, waving at the shelves.
